Loans Gordon Head residents research online fall under BC's $14 per $100 cap. Gordon Head spreads north of the University of Victoria toward the water, and this page covers the UVic payroll, the September rush and April exodus, houses that run on suite income, and the rules binding every licensed lender.
UVic is the economy
The University of Victoria is Gordon Head's economy: faculty, administrative and trades staff on steady biweekly pay, plus thousands of students renting the neighbourhood's basement and garden suites. Mount Douglas Park sits on the flank, and almost everything else in the area exists to house, feed or move the campus.
The houses went up in the 1960s and 1970s, and most now run on suite income as a planned part of the mortgage.
McKenzie Avenue and the bus to campus
McKenzie Avenue carries the main bus corridors to campus and downtown, which keeps many Gordon Head households to one car or none. The loans Gordon Head renters apply for ask even less of the street: application, bank verification and e-transfer funding all happen on a phone, in a suite or on the bus.
Funding follows approval by minutes to hours in business hours, next morning after late cutoffs.

Paid by the term: the April to September problem
Anyone paid by the university term faces the same calendar: sessional contracts end in April, teaching assistant pay stops with the term, and campus service jobs thin out over the summer. September restores the rhythm; the five months before it are the predictable gap.
The loans Gordon Head term workers can sensibly sign fit the last weeks of that gap, once a September contract is in hand. Nothing legal fits the whole gap, and pretending otherwise is how a $300 shortfall becomes a $342 debit landing on an income that has not restarted.
Sizing against a term based income
Term based income needs conservative sizing: $300 carried to a dated September deposit costs $42, one debit of $342 when it lands. The law caps the loan at 50% of net pay for the period, requires one repayment on the next payday, and sets the minimum borrowing age in BC at 19.
| Gordon Head case | The gap | What tends to fit |
|---|---|---|
| TA with a signed September contract | The last weeks of summer | A small payday loan to the first deposit |
| University trades staff mid cycle | One bill between biweekly deposits | A payday loan a week or two long |
| Homeowner with a suite between tenants | A reno bill past $1500 before September | An installment loan repaid monthly |
| Student with no current payroll | No employment deposits at all | Not a payday loan; campus work first |
Pricing detail sits on the payday loans Victoria page, and the monthly route is the installment loans Victoria page at 18% to 35% APR over 3 to 60 months. The Victoria loan FAQ handles the term gap question at length.

The rules do not follow the academic calendar
BC's payday rules hold in every month of the academic year: a licence from Consumer Protection BC under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act, Part 6.1, banned rollovers, and free cancellation until the end of the second day the lender is open for business after the advance.
The federal payday loan guide is worth ten minutes before any first loan. The Loans Victoria homepage explains the free matching service and the how it works page walks the sequence; lenders are licensed third parties.
The areas we serve hub maps every page. Down the hill, Cadboro Bay is the beach village on the same academic pay; southwest, Oaklands follows the Camosun calendar; south along the border, Oak Bay runs the village and service payrolls.

My TA pay stops at the end of April. Can I apply in May on my summer job offer?
Not on the offer alone. Lenders size to deposits already arriving, so apply once the summer job's first payroll lands. An offer letter plans the repayment; it does not create income.
I rent out my basement suite to students. Does that income support a loan?
Not for payday lending, which reads employment deposits only. Suite transfers help your budget and your installment loan file, but they do not move a payday ceiling.
Do lenders treat a twelve month staff contract differently from a sessional one?
The product does not ask. Both show as payroll deposits, and the loan is sized to the current period's net pay either way. The difference is yours to manage: a sessional should not sign a debit dated after the contract ends.
Can two roommates apply together to get a bigger amount?
No. A payday loan is individual, sized to one person's pay and one chequing account. Two people can each apply separately for their own smaller loans, which is usually a warning sign that the plan is too big.
